Jessica Chastain Gives Beautiful Speech on Diversity in Movies
Jessica Chastain hits the stage to accept the Critics’ Choice MVP Award at the 2015 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held at the Hollywood Palladium on Thursday evening (January 15) in Los Angeles.
The two-time Oscar-nominated actress received the award giving stellar performances in four films this year: A Most Violent Year, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, Interstellar, and Miss Julie.
Jessica decided to use her speech to speak up for diversity in film and it was a beautiful and inspiring moment.
“Today is Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday so it got me thinking about our need to build the strength of diversity in our industry and to stand together against homophobic, sexiest, misogynistic, anti-Semitic, and racist agendas,” Jessica said. “I’m and optimist and I can’t help but feeling hopeful about the future of film, especially looking at all these beautiful people in this room. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, ‘Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter’ and I would like to encourage everyone in this room to please speak up.”
