'Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2' On Track for Huge, But Series Low Debut

This weekend marks the debut of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, the final film in the franchise, and it’s on track to have a huge debut with $102 million in its first three days.

The movie opened in theaters on Friday with $46 million, according to Variety.

While this is an enormous number, the fourth film will have the lowest debut in the series. Mockingjay – Part 1 had the previous lowest opening weekend with $121.9 million following the first movie’s $152.5 million debut and Catching Fire‘s $158.1 million launch.

Jennifer Lawrence‘s new movie is set to have the fifth-biggest opening of 2015 in the U.S. Previous films that have had bigger debuts include Jurassic World with $208.8 million, Avengers: Age of Ultron with $191.3 million, Furious 7 with $147.2 million, and Minions with $115.7 million.
