Daisy Ridley Responds to Criticism of Her 'Star Wars' Character

Daisy Ridley is speaking out against critics who are calling her Star Wars: The Force Awakens character Rey too unrealistically perfect.

The 24-year-old actress told MTV News‘ “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that Rey doesn’t deserve the “Mary Sue” stereotype she has been labeled with.

“The Mary Sue thing in itself is sexist because it’s the name of a woman,” Daisy explained.

She added, “Everyone was saying that Luke had the exact same [capabilities]. I think Rey is incredible vulnerable, and nothing she’s doing is for the greater good. She’s just doing what she thinks is the right thing. And she doesn’t want to do some of it, but she feels compelled to do it. So for me, I was just confused.”
