Derek Jeter Talks About Taking a Knee During National Anthem

On taking a knee during the National Anthem: “I think people have lost sight of why [Colin Kaepernick] was taking a knee. It’s turned into [a discussion about] the act of taking a knee as opposed to why you’re doing something. And I wish that wasn’t the case.”

On his relationship with his parents: “We were all very close, I still bounce every idea off my parents because I know they’re going to be honest with me.”

On growing up in an interracial family: “I was always taught to connect with everyone. You should have friends from different backgrounds and nationalities. It’s not like you had to go out and necessarily have five black friends, five white friends, five Hispanic friends. You surround yourself with good.”
