Harry Connick Jr. Is Boycotting the Super Bowl 2019 Over Blown Referee Call

Harry Connick Jr. has shared a letter on his Instagram account that is addressed to Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, saying he’s boycotting the 2019 Super Bowl.

If you don’t know, Harry is a huge New Orleans Saints fan. During the Saints’ playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams, with a Super Bowl trip on the line, referees missed a pivotal penalty that a Rams player made against a Saints player. Had that penalty been called in the Saints’ favor, the Saints could very well be going to the Super Bowl instead of the Los Angeles Rams.

The NFL has admitted they made a mistake and the penalty should have been called in favor of the Saints.

Harry wrote Roger a letter and posted it to his Instagram account.

“I love the game of football so much — the NFL gives me great joy and has for many years. To not call the pass interference/helmet-to-helmet penalties at the end of the game was one of the most disgraceful no-calls I have ever seen,” he wrote. “The officiating this year has been, for the most part, mediocre, in my opinion. But for a game as important as the NFL championship, it sickens me to know that the people who are assigned to fairly officiate the game seemingly had no regard for not only a dangerous penalty but one that would certainly have changed the outcome of the game.”

“Until changes are made, specifically, booth review of outcome-altering no-calls, you can count me out. I’m not watching the AFC championship game and I won’t be watching the Super Bowl,” he added.
