'Hamilton' Performance in SF Ends in Mass Chaos, Three Injured
A performance of the Broadway musical Hamilton on tour in San Francisco ended in mass chaos on Friday night (February 15) after the audience self-evacuated.
A woman in the audience had a medical emergency near the end of the show and it happened during the moment of the show when Hamilton is shot on stage. Audience members thought that the woman was shot, though she was really having a heart attack.
Mass chaos ensued and audience members rushed to the exits after someone in the crowd yelled, “Gun!”
The woman and three other people were taken to the hospital with injuries. One of the other three suffered a broken leg. The woman who had the heart attack is reportedly in critical condition.
Cast members also evacuated the theater as someone pulled the theater’s fire pull station. Rick Negron, who plays King George in the production, took to Twitter to explain what happened.
A medical emergency at the end of our HAMILTON performance tonight sparked a panic that emptied the Orpheum theater in San Francisco. Someone’s screaming led to the panic and because we live in these troubled times with daily shootings everyone went into survival mode.
