OUATIH's Julia Butters Spills on Filming With Leonardo DiCaprio & Brad Pitt

What was it like working with Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood? Actress Julia Butters is spilling.

The 12-year-old American Housewife star didn’t know who Leonardo was before the film!

“I thought he was a musician,” she told Variety, adding, “I just knew [Brad Pitt] as a ‘handsome guy,’ like when women say, ‘Oh, Brad Pitt. He’s so handsome.’ That’s how I kind of knew his name.”

On shooting her scene with Leonardo, Julia shared, “That was my audition scene — I had to learn 21 pages in a week, probably less than a week — so I already kind of knew the lines. But we did have rehearsals. We’d go to the set not even in wardrobe and just run it many times, and that’s when we would get all of the bad takes out of the way so that the good ones would come later.”

“He’s such a great actor, so I wasn’t really reciting a line,” she continued. “It was mostly coming from me. It wasn’t anything like, ‘Oh, my gosh. I’m going to go whisper something in Leonardo DiCaprio’s ear.’ It was more like, ‘I’m going to recite this line and whisper in my friend’s ear.’”

Julia also opened up about a funny take she had with Leonardo DiCaprio.

“There were raccoons all around the set,” Julia Butters said. “I saw one out of the corner of my eye, and Leo was crying. He was telling me about his life. He’s crying and I’m supposed to be listening to him, and in the corner of my eye, I can see this fuzzy panda-looking bandit. He comes around the corner and looks around, takes a big ol’ yawn and just continues on his way, all happy. I wanted to [laugh], but I didn’t. I wanted to get the take right.”
