Tom Hanks Gets First Oscar Nomination in 19 Years
You may not realize, but it’s been a long long time since Tom Hanks has been nominated for an Academy Award, despite tons of great performances over the past two decades.
His last nomination came in 2001 for the hit film Cast Away, where he played a man stranded on a desert island after a plane crash.
Today, he was finally nominated again for his work in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.
Tom won back to back Oscars in 1993 and 1994 for his work in the hit films Philadelphia and Forrest Gump. He’s been nominated for Big, Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, and Cast Away over the course of his career.
Some roles he was passed up on nominations for including 2017′s The Post, 2016′s Sully, 2013′s Captain Phillips, 2002′s Catch Me If You Can, and more.
