Cristela Alonzo Reveals She Wasn't Paid for ABC Sitcom Pilot 'Cristela'

Cristela Alonzo is revealing some surprising info about her sitcom.

The 41-year-old actress and producer revealed that she wasn’t paid for her ABC sitcom pilot Cristela.

Cristela revealed this on Twitter, while sharing an article from 2017 about Lena Dunham’s show Girls, where Lena said she sold the show to HBO with a page-and-a-half-long pitch, without a character or plot.

“I got paid $0 for my sitcom pilot. When I sold my show, my white partner got 3 x more money then [sic] me AND an overall deal. I was ‘not ready’ to get one. The name of the show was Cristela. I also offered to shoot the show in English/Spanish. I wasn’t the highest paid person on it,” Cristela tweeted. She co-created the show with Kevin Hench.

The comedy series made Cristela the first Latina woman to create, produce, write, and star in her own US primetime comedy.

Cristela was cancelled by ABC in May 2015 after one season. The network cited the show’s live ratings as the reason for its cancellation.

Cristela then responded to a fan, asking how ABC could “justify” not paying her for the pilot.

“I’ve spoken about it in interviews…it’s a long story…basically, the way I got my show on the air had never been done before…blah blah…there are no legal worries tied to it,” Cristela wrote.

Cristela then went on to praise Pixar, whom she worked with while starring in Cars 3 as Cruz Ramirez.

“By the way, starring in Cars 3 was the thing I did right after my show was canceled and let me say….PIXAR IS AMAZING TO WORK WITH,” Christela tweeted.
