Mariah Carey Breaks Silence on That 2008 Ellen DeGeneres Moment That Made Her 'Extremely Uncomfortable'

Back in 2008, Mariah Carey made an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres‘ talk show where there was a lot of speculation that she may have been expecting.

Ellen brought out champagne to test if Mariah was actually pregnant, and the clip went viral again recently as the talk show host’s show has been under immense scrutiny.

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say. And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath,” Mariah said reflecting on the moment in a new interview with Vulture, released today. “I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.”

Mariah also added that there is “an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do? It’s like, [sings] ‘What are you going to do?’”
