Whoopi Goldberg Reveals She Fought Pay Disparity While Filming 'Sister Act' By Doing This

Whoopi Goldberg stepped up while filming Sister Act when she found out that the actors playing the nuns were not getting the pay they deserved.

Speaking during the Vulture festival this week, via People, the 64-year-old View host and actress opened up about her time on the movie set of the popular film and revealed that in order to show producers that the nuns deserved more, she got “sick”.

“The ladies hadn’t gotten everything I thought they should have gotten — the nuns,” she explained. “They were older women. They were women who I felt…should be able to go and have dinner and not be worried about paying hotels or whatever it was.”

The eldest of the nuns was 82 during filming, and another was 79.

To fight the wage gap, Whoopi said she “fell ill for a day or two” until the producers took notice and the matter was resolved.

“I got sick,” Whoopi shared. “I would never go on strike. But if my coughing and sneezing coincided with our brief problem … they fixed it and it was great.”

If you missed it, Whoopi also opened up about how she almost missed out on one of her most iconic roles. See which one here…
