The announcement comes exactly a year after WWE released a number of employees, including Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, as well as Hall of Famer Kurt Angle. The announcement cited the pandemic as the reason to implement “various short-term cost reductions and cash flow improvement actions” at that time.

The stars are beginning to react on social media, including Tucker, who wrote “Freedom baby!! Looking forward to telling my story” and Mickie James, who said: “Grateful for the memories. Grateful for the locker room. Grateful for the fans. Grateful for these little keys to my golden handcuffs. You can never expected others vision of you to be big as your own dreams. Thank you @VinceMcMahon #AlwaysBlessedAndGrateful.”

One star recently revealed he was almost a WWE Smackdown head writer.
