Sha’Carri Richardson Speaks Out After Failing Drug Test Due to Marijuana

Sha’Carri Richardson is speaking out for the first time.

The 21-year-old athlete, poised to be a strong competitor at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, made a statement about her suspension from the U.S. Olympic team after reportedly failing a drug test due to testing positive for marijuana.

According to NBC, she failed the test for THC, found in marijuana, after her win at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon last month.

“I want to take responsibility for my actions. I know what I did. I know what I’m supposed to do, (what) I’m allowed not to do and I still made that decision,” she told Today.

“Don’t judge me because I am human,” she added.

The outlet noted that there is “still a small chance she can compete” in the relay at the Tokyo Olympics.
