'Grace Under Fire' Actress Brett Butler Says She's Broke & Six Months Behind on Rent

Brett Butler is seeking assistance from fans after admitting that she’s broke and six months behind on her rent.

The 63-year-old actress shot to fame with her ABC sitcom series Grace Under Fire in the 1990s and there was a time when she was earning $250,000 per episode.

Brett is now opening up about what happened to her in the years since the end of her show.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brett explained how she went to a friend recently to reveal her financial trouble. The friend helped her launch a GoFundMe page, which has raised over $26,000 so far.

“I told him, ‘I might’ve waited too long to do this, but I am so screwed right now,’” she said. “‘I’ve been ashamed. Almost ashamed to death.’”

Brett told THR that she suffered from drug addiction while starring in Grace Under Fire. The show was canceled halfway into its fifth season.

“At the bloody bitter end, I really was difficult,” she said. “I was out of my mind. Drugs will do that to you. The show should have been pulled sooner than it was.”

Brett said she got into her current financial situation because she trusted the wrong people and it led her to making some poor choices with her money. The pandemic also contributed to her issues.

She said, “I was a little bit too trusting with some people that worked for me, and I had a lot of things stolen. That’s just stupid on my part, not to have insurance for those things. And to loan and give a lot of money away. I really just felt so guilty for having it — I almost couldn’t get rid of it fast enough.”
