'NCIS' Showrunner Teases Season 19 Premiere & Gibbs' Fate On The Series
NCIS is finally back and giving fans some answers on just what happened to Gibbs in the season premiere on CBS.
The show, which moved nights, will be bringing the “band back together”, according to showrunner Steven D. Binder.
“All things are still possible with Gibbs,” he shared with TV Line about the state of the agent. “He’s not dead and we know he’s able to swim well enough to do that broad stroke we saw, but any number of levels of injury were possible for him at that point.”

Steven added that the season will open up with the main cast coming back together to not only find Gibbs, but crack down on the serial killer storyline.
“In the beginning episodes, that’s going to change,” he says of Gibbs being cut off from the team. “We’re going to ‘bring the band back together’ to some degree so they can do what we have liked watching for 20 years, which is these people solving crimes together.”
Here’s the summary for the season 19 opener: “Blood in the Water” – As the NCIS team searches for Gibbs after wreckage from his boat is discovered, they find out that he had been tracking a serial killer with the journalist, Marcie Warren (Pam Dawber) who had done an exposé on him.
NCIS will premiere tonight, Monday, September 20 at 9/8c on CBS.
