'Venom 2' Breaks Pandemic Box Office Records on Opening Weekend!

The movie opened to $90.1 million at the domestic box office, marking the biggest three-day launch of the pandemic era, and the biggest weekend overall since COVID-19 shut down theaters back in March of 2020.
In addition, the box office revenue came in less than 15% behind the same weekend in 2019 for the first time.
“With apologies to Mr. Twain: The death of movies has been greatly exaggerated,” Sony’s Tom Rothman said in a statement.
Venom 2 also came in $25-$30 million ahead of expectations, and is the first sequel to debut higher than the original movie in the pandemic era. (Venom opened to $80.3 million in 2018.)
