Shaun White Admits To Not Knowing Who Nina Dobrev Was When They First Started Dating

Shaun White had absolutely no clue who Nina Dobrev was when the duo first starting dating.

In a new interview with People, the 35-year-old snowboarder confessed to only really knowing that Nina was an actress, and not that she played Elena Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries for eight seasons.

“I actually didn’t know anything about her,” Shaun said, before recalling one of their first dates at a restaurant they went to: “The place was packed. And she was like, ‘Let me go see if I can get a table.’”

Shaun shared that he imagined Nina telling the hostess that “there’s an old gold medalist over there who wants a table.’”

Instead, the servers were more starstruck over her. “I was like, ‘What’s happening? What’s going on?’ It was actually really funny.”

Shaun opened up more about his and Nina‘s relationship, which has been going on for three years, which went local after the pandemic hit and they moved in together.

“We went to the hardware store, bought a bunch of paint, and brushes, and definitely got in over our heads, but it was really fun,” Shaun shared, added that he knew Nina was special when their two dogs — Steve, a French bulldog, and Maverick, her border collie Australian shepherd mix — struck up a friendship.

He added, “Steve has a bit of an attitude, but they get along amazingly. So it was really meant to be.”

“Nina’s just been so supportive and so amazing through this whole process for me. Through the pandemic, she was a lifesaver — she really made that time in my life special,” Shaun gushed.
