Mario confirmed the reports again that Sarah Jessica Parker was the only one who knew about Willie‘s cancer, and that he only found out when Willie told him.

“I had no idea until he told me,” he said, adding that he “thought he was kidding. And then he turned his head and I saw his look and I went, and then I sat down next to him. We both cried and it was horrible.”

Willie died of pancreatic cancer after a private battle at the age of 57 as the show was actively filming.

As for how Willie‘s character, Stanford Blatch was written out, Mario loved how it was handled.

“I love that scene [where Anthony tells Carrie about Stanford leaving],” he added. “I think it’s beautifully written.”

If you missed it, you can find out how Willie‘s storyline was originally intended to play out.
