Nina Dobrev 'Didn't Remember' Auditioning as Lily Van der Woodsen for 'Gossip Girl' Spinoff

Nina Dobrev is remembering one of her earlier auditions!

Last month, it was reported that the 33-year-old actress nearly starred in Gossip Girl spinoff about a young Lily van der Woodsen.

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Nina revealed she didn’t even remember auditioning for the role until she read some of the articles.

“To be honest with you, when I saw that headline and I clicked on it … I didn’t remember it,” she told the outlet. “And then I read it in depth and remembered. [The articles] jogged my memory. And I was like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s right. I did audition for that. That did happen.’”

While the Vampire Diaries star didn’t land the part, she didn’t mind.

“I fully understood it,” she admitted. “And I think I even remember when they sent me the audition and I was like, ‘I’m never gonna get this. I don’t look like [Kelly Rutherford],’ but I did it anyway.”

However, the opportunity introduced her to Gossip Girl casting director David Rapaport, who praised her to CW executives.

“I’m glad that I did that anyway because … I think probably a month later I got [cast on] Vampire Diaries,” she recalled. “Everything’s a stepping stone. One thing leads to the other and it always works out exactly like it’s supposed to.”
