TWICE's Nayeon Is Ready to 'POP!' as a Solo Star (Interview)
Can you tell us about the decision to make your debut EP self-titled?
I wanted the album’s title to manifest the confidence of the title track “POP!” while also emphasizing TWICE’s first attempt of a solo album. That’s why I settled on the album title IM NAYEON.
How would you describe the overall vibe or concept of the EP?
I wanted the album to match the freshness and coolness of a summer breeze. I hope the listeners can get the cool, gentle breeze to escape the summer heat.
The album artwork is beautiful. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the photo shoot?
I was able to shoot four different concepts for this album. The idea behind it was to capture as many looks as possible, while conveying the overall vibe of “POP!”.
What made you decide to choose “POP!” as the title track?
From its title, the popping nature of the song made it sound so fun while best representing the popstar concept that this album holds.
The album includes several collaborators, including Stray Kids‘ Felix and rapper Wonstein. Why did you choose them for features, and how was the experience of working with them?
When I heard the demo version of “NO PROBLEM” and “LOVE COUNTDOWN,” our team agreed that the songs needed a male voice. Our music team recommended Felix and Wonstein as the featuring artists. Because I’ve always loved their voices, and they each have a unique style, I immediately agreed to have them be part of this album.
