'The Walking Dead' Rick Grimes Movie Replaced With Limited Series

Announced during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con on Friday (July 22), producer Scott Gimple shared the exciting news about how the movie has been changed into a six episode limited series.

It will bring back Andrew as Rick, and also star Danai Gurira as Michonne Hawthorne. The series is set to premiere next year on AMC+.

“Rick and Michonne are two of my favorite people and Danai and Andy are two of my favorite people,” Scott shared in a statement at the convention, via Variety. “Working with all of them continues to be a dream come true. The three of us, along with a terrific team of TWD all stars and incredible new voices, are crafting an insane love epic worth the long, long wait.”

First announced in 2019, the planned Rick Grimes centered movie was expected to go in theaters.

News of the limited series also comes after there was a big change in the other The Walking Dead spinoff centered on Daryl and Carol.
