Aubrey Plaza Says A Friend Thought She Was The New Lara Croft After Seeing An 'Emily The Criminal' Promo Image

Aubrey Plaza wears a two piece white ensemble to a Q&A panel event for her new movie, Emily The Criminal, in New York City on Tuesday (August 9).

The 38-year-old actress and co-star Theo Rossi opened up about their new flick, which centers on the titular character, who is saddled with student debt and unable to find work, and becomes involved in a credit card scam. She acts as a dummy shopper and buying increasingly risky products with stolen credit cards.

While appearing on The Tonight Show just the night before, Aubrey told host Jimmy Fallon that director Edgar Wright actually thought she was cast as a the new Lara Croft after seeing a promo image for the flick.

“My friend Edgar Wright actually saw that and texted me and said, ‘Oh my god, you’re the new Lara Croft? You’re the new Tomb Raider?’ That’s the character in Tomb Raider. And I was like, ‘No, Edgar. That’s my movie, Emily the Criminal,” she explained.

Aubrey added that Edgar genuinely thought I was cast as the new Tomb Raider, and then I looked it up and they actually are casting this role right now. I was like, ‘Well there you go. The new Tomb Raider, whatever.’”

Emily The Criminal is out on Friday, August 12.
