Mark Harmon Addresses 'NCIS' Exit For The First Time

Mark Harmon addressed his exit from NCIS after 19 seasons for the first time.

The 70-year-old actor departed the show as Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs in October 2021, which was the beginning of season 19, and had not commented on his leaving the show until now.

“What has always drawn me here is the character I play and to keep it fresh and to keep it challenging…Plot-wise, this character has taken the path that it did. I thought it was honest and OK with,” Mark told ET.

Mark added that his character is definitely still alive. “I’m not retired… The character is living in Alaska as far as I know.”

NCIS will return for its 20th season on September 19.

A CBS executive recently explained why Mark is still in the NCIS opening credits despite his departure from the show.
