Solange Knowles Is The First Black Woman to Compose Original Score for NYC Ballet

Solange Knowles has composed an original score for the NYC Ballet which will premiere on September 28 at the ballet company’s 10th annual Fall Fashion Gala.

The 36-year-old artist is the first black woman to compose an original score for the New York City Ballet. The score will be performed by the New York City Ballet orchestra and choreographed by Gianna Reisen.

Solange won a Grammy for best R&B performance for her single “Cranes in the Sky.” She released her critically acclaimed album, When I Get Home in 2019.

She tweeted that there will be four shows in October and five shows in May.
