'The Bachelorette' Contestant Erich Schwer's Dad Died After Hometown Visit from Gabby Windey

During the hometown dates episode of The Bachelorette, Gabby Windey met Erich Schwer‘s father Allan and we’ve sadly learned that he passed away soon after the visit.

Erich, 29, took Gabby, 31, home to visit his family in New Jersey and told her how his dad had been diagnosed with cancer years earlier.

While chatting with Gabby during the visit, Allan said that he had spent about 40 days in the ICU with appendiceal cancer.

“But I’m still here,” Allan said. “I’m happy. I’m positive, so that’s good. I really admire the ICU nurses. They’re so sharp.”

Allan told Gabby, an ICU nurse, “I already went through three rounds of chemo. The first two did nothing. And the third one almost killed me.”

Allan sadly passed away on July 6, just days before the season premiered on ABC. A few days after his death, Erich wrote on Instagram, “Thankful for everything you’ve done for me. We are gonna miss the hell out of you Big AL. I love you so much dad.”
