John Stamos Reveals Ryan Murphy Once Approached Him About Playing a Male Hooker & Talks Pitching a Similar Idea to Another Show
During an interview on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, John told host Jess Cagle that Ryan asked him about the show during a lunch meeting.
“I remember going to lunch with him at The Ivy and we order, and I said, ‘So what’s the show?’ And he’s like, ‘Well…’ And this was again, like now if he offered me the show, I’d do it in two seconds. But it was like, ‘Okay, you play a male hooker and you fix the, you sleep with the husband, sleep with the wife, and you kinda work on their marriage,’” he explained.
Ryan‘s pitch compared the idea to a popular franchise: “And then he said, ‘And plus you have a really cute black guy and there’s a cute blonde guy. You’re like Charlie’s Angels, but you’re hookers. Charlie’s Hookers.’”
John was not as receptive at the time. “And then the, and the, and the appetizer just sat down, you know, got sit. I was like, ‘Oh God, I gotta sit another hour with this guy with Charlie’s Hookers.’ I should have done it though,” he added.
While the show never came to fruition, John revealed that he pitched a similar idea to the creators of Reno-911!
“They said, ‘Well, what do you wanna do?’ I said, ‘What if I play-’ Like cuz it’s Reno. And I was like, ‘What if I play like a male hooker who’s paralyzed from the neck down? But he had a great tongue work. He could just, he did his use his tongue great,’” John recalled. “And they’re like, ‘Oh, okay.’ Never happened.”
The actor revealed that he also passed on an opportunity to work on Nip/Tuck with Ryan. However, he expressed interest in rebooting Scream Queens again.
