George Clooney Thinks His Marriage Proposal to Amal Clooney Was A Disaster

George Clooney recounted just how his marriage proposal to wife Amal went, and in his mind, it was kind of a disaster.

During his appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the 61-year-old Ticket to Paradise star opened up about the work he put into the moment, and how Amal originally thought the ring was for someone in his past.

George‘s plan was for Amal to discover the ring at dinner while music from his aunt Rosemary Clooney played, and as soon as the tune started, he had asked her to reach for a box containing a lighter to re-light a candle he conveniently blew out.

“I go, ‘I think there’s a lighter, could re-light the candle…I think there’s a lighter in that little box,’” George said, “And she pulls this thing out, this little drawer, and there’s a diamond ring in there.”

According to him, what was happening didn’t exactly click right away: “She looks at it and she’s like, ‘There’s a ring in there,’” he joked while rolling his eyes. “Like somebody left a ring there years ago.”

George added that Amal took more time to give him an answer while he was on one knee.

He shared, “I literally said, ‘Listen, I really would like to marry you but I also am not young, and I’ve been on my knee now and I could like lose a hip.’”

The couple share twins, Alexander and Ella, and just recently, George opened up about what he thought of them going into the family business.
