Miley Cyrus Will Be Blonde For Her New Year's Eve Special Because Of Dolly Parton - Here's Why!

Miley Cyrus will be blonde when she takes the stage tomorrow for her NBC special Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, and she has her co-host and godmother Dolly Parton to thank for that decision.

The 30-year-old “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker opened up about how Dolly inspired the choice in a recent interview. She also spilled some tea about what they’d be wearing, another decision that was heavily influenced by the “Jolene” legend.

Miley joked that Dolly “clutched her pearls, gasped and went back” after she mentioned going brunette for the show.

“I’ve never seen Dolly actually scared before,” she added during an appearance on TODAY. “She acted like I told her the worst news you could imagine.”

Dolly told her no in very clear terms. “And she goes, ‘You can’t do that. You are me.’ So I’m somehow some extension of Dolly Parton, where she looked like I had just given her the worst news you’ve ever heard. So I will be blonde,” she explained.

The host added that she was a little unclear on what she was wearing for the event, since her first outfits were nixed by Dolly.

“I showed up to our promo shoot in a dress that I thought was very Dolly Parton,” she recalled. “I had everything that you need to be very Dolly Parton, and big hair, and full lip gloss. My lips were stickin’ together, the whole thing. And she goes, ‘So you know, how va-va-voom are we going for New Year’s?’ And I said, ‘Well, what do you think about this dress, on a scale of one to va-va-voom?’”

Miley said the look was deemed “very conservative.”
