Pat Sajak Announces His Retirement From 'Wheel of Fortune'

Pat Sajak is stepping back from hosting Wheel of Fortune and will retire as the host.

In a statement, via THR, the 76-year-old game show host revealed his plans for the upcoming season, and they don’t include watching a wheel spinning around.

“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” Pat shared in a statement.

He added, “It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)”

Pat first hinted at his retirement from the show late last year.

“Years go by fast. We’re getting near the end. It’s been a long [time]. We’re not gonna do this for another 40 years. The end is near,” Pat said at the time. “… It’s an honor to have been in people’s living rooms for that long. People were out there welcoming us. We’re happy and proud.”

Pat has been hosting the show since 1981. Find out where he ranks in the richest game show hosts list.
