Daniel Radcliffe Recalls the Sort of Conversations He Had With Dumbledore Actor Michael Gambon

Daniel Radcliffe shared some of his memories from time on the Harry Potter set with the late Michael Gambon.

Playing the Boy Who Lived and Albus Dumbledore respectively means that Daniel and Michael spent a good amount of quality time together over the years.

As such, it’s not surprising that Daniel was one of the first Harry Potter stars to pay tribute to Michael after we learned that he passed away at the age of 82 last week. He had more to say during an appearance at Variety’s Business of Broadway Breakfast on Monday (October 2).

More specifically, Daniel looked back on the types of conversations that he had with Michael. Interestingly, they were different in a key way from the sort that their characters had.

While Harry Potter learned a lot about the art of wizardry from Dumbledore, Daniel said that Michael didn’t focus his conversations with the younger cast on their craft.

“The wonderful thing about Michael is that he wasn’t an actor you talked about acting with,” he recalled, according to Variety. “His true passion was restoring 19th-century Italian dueling pistols.”

However, like the witty and playful Dumbledore, Daniel added that Michael kept the atmosphere on set light, seemingly on purpose. “He knows he’s at his best when he’s at his most playful,” he explained, saying, “His ability to switch on was second to none.”

Did you know that another actor was considered to play Dumbledore after Richard Harris, who played the iconic wizard in the franchise’s first two movies, passed away?
