Ryan Phillippe personally confirmed that he was in talks to play Cap during an interview with MTV in 2010.

“[I] actually am going in to meet on Captain America, which is kind of cool,” he admitted at the time. “After Superman, he was kind of my favorite.”

It is not clear how far along he got in the audition process, and he has not played a role in the MCU.

Wyatt Russell

Here comes the first big surprise on the list. Wyatt Russell briefly assumed the title of Captain America in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Of course, his run as the hero was brief as Anthony Mackie took over before the end of the show. However, he also competed with Chris to play the first iteration of the hero.

“I think that honestly, the first audition was really more just something to read, to see if I was any good at acting or not,” he shared in 2021. “I don’t think I was ever actually in competition for the role, but it was crazy.”
