Gabrielle Union opened up about competing with Janet for the role.

“I went to audition,” she said on The Late Late Show with James Corden via Business Insider. “To me, I needed to feel like the most powerful, beautiful, and amazing woman in the world, so of course, I wanted to channel Janet Jackson.”

She continued, revealing that she got her hair done and got an outfit to resemble Janet. The actress event replicated the hitmaker’s mole. She went to the audition and then saw Janet there.

We don’t know for sure what happened, but Gabrielle joked that they “cancelled each other out.”
