Kerry Washington To Star in Netflix's Surfing Drama Movie 'Rockaway'

Kerry Washington is sticking with Netflix.

Variety has announced that the 44-year-old actress will star and produce a new film for the streamer called Rockaway.

Rockaway is based on Diane Cardwell’s memoir, “Rockaway: Surfing Headlong Into a New Life” and the adaption will be penned by Nichelle Tramble Spellman.

The movie will center on Kerry‘s character, a Manhattan-based journalist who unexpectedly discovers the transcendent power of surfing while on a routine assignment, and finds herself running from the comfortable life she’s always known toward a life of romance and self-discovery in eclectic Rockaway Beach.

The memoir tells the story of the Diane‘s own reinvention as she discovered the world of surfing.

Kerry will also be produce the movie for her Simpson Street company, and author Diane will also serve as an executive producer.

She’ll next be seen in Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil, opposite Charlize Theron, Laurence Fishburne and Michelle Yeoh.
