Kelsea Ballerini Opens Up About Battle With Diet Pills & Bulimia In New Poetry Book

Kelsea Ballerini is opening up about her battle with an eating disorder.

The 28-year-old “My Hometown” country singer opened up in an interview with People about her struggles while promoting her new book, “Feel Your Way Through.”

Kelsea shared that it started after her parents had gotten divorced when she was a teenager, and revealed her emotions through one of the books poems, called “Kangaroo”.

“A boy named Jackson called me ‘kangaroo’ when I was a freshman in high school … he explained this new nickname because of my belly and little legs,” she wrote in the entry.

Kelsea then wrote that she had battled bulimia, took diet pills and worked out excessively until, at age 18, she sought help after passing out “several” times.

“It’s a journey, and it’s never-ending,” she shared with the magazine.

After reading a presumptive headline years ago, Kelsea says she’s worked on her mental health and physical health to rise above them.

“I’m in a much healthier spot, and I’m much more gentle with how I talk to myself and my body,” she shared. “There are still days where I revert back to being that 12-year-old, and I have to catch myself, and hold myself accountable to the work I’ve done.”

Kelsea added, “I don’t work out to get skinny, I work out to be healthy. I don’t eat a salad to be skinny, I eat a salad to be healthy. I’ve re-calibrated what it means to me to just look in the mirror and just be like, ‘Man, I’m healthy. I’m strong. I have good breath support to do my job well.’ Those are things that matter to me now, rather than: ‘I look skinny in a dress.’”
