J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, has taken to Twitter to mourn Alan Rickman on Thursday (January 14) after news of his death spread.

“There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man,” J.K. wrote. “My thoughts are with Rima and the rest of Alan’s family. We have all lost a great talent. They have lost part of their hearts.”

Alan, who died from cancer at age 69, starred as Severus Snape in all of the Harry Potter movies.

Alan Rickman passed away today, Thursday (January 14), after battling cancer, and celebrities have been taking to their Twitter accounts to pay their respects.

The 69-year-old actor’s career spanned decades, and he touched lives in dozens of films.

Notably, Alan starred in all eight Harry Potter movies as Severus Snape.

Alan Rickman, beloved British actor well known for his role as Severus Snape in all 8 of the Harry Potter films, has passed away at the age of 69.

The English star, who died on Thursday (January 14), was battling cancer.

“The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends,” his rep told THR in a statement.

Alan had an extensive resume, with films including Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Love Actually, and many more.

Alan secretly married his partner of many years last year.

Getting to hear Alan Rickman talk about Harry Potter is great, but getting to hear him talking about it after inhaling helium is even better!

The 69-year-old actor and director stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday (June 17) and participated in a fun segment with the talk show host.

Alan says he was offended by the impression Jimmy did of him while having an “Alan Rickman-off” with Benedict Cumberbatch back in October 2013.

“Apparently, these are the Jimmy Fallon truth-telling machines,” Alan said while bringing out the balloons.

The 39-year-old actress was joined at the event by her co-star and director Alan Rickman, as well as Diane Sawyer and Christian Slater who both came out to show their support.

Alan Rickman has secretly married his partner who he has known for over fifty years Rima Horton!

The two moved in together in 1977 and just recently got married, the 69-year-old actor revealed to German newspaper Bild.

“We are married. Just recently. It was great, because no one was there. After the wedding in New York we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and ate lunch,” Alan said. He also said that Rima, 68, did not want a big ring, so he bought her a $200 band that “she never wears.”
