Army of the Dead is coming!

The highly anticipated Zack Snyder-directed zombie flick is hitting Netflix on May 21, the streamer confirmed on Sunday (February 21).

Here’s a plot summary: “Following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.

The film was first announced in June of 2008 as a direct sequel to 2004′s Dawn of the Dead at the time, and faced over a decade of waiting in development limbo. It is still unclear whether the film is intended to be a direct sequel.

The cast includes Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Garret Dillahunt, Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Huma Qureshi, Samantha Win, Richard Cetrone and Michael Cassidy.

Zack Snyder‘s Army of the Dead is a hit – and it hasn’t even come out yet!

The highly anticipated zombie action Netflix movie is set to arrive in 2021, and was just given a prequel feature and a spin-off anime series, Deadline reported Thursday (September 3).

Here’s a plot summary: “Army of the Dead follows the aftermath of a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, and the group of mercenaries who venture into the quarantine zone to pull off a big heist.”

The prequel “will be directed by and star Grimme Award winner Matthias Schweighöfer and will follow his Army of the Dead character Ludwig Dieter.”

Shay Hatten, one of the writers of the screenplay for Army of the Dead, will write the prequel as well as the anime series.

“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to partner with Netflix again as we expand the Army of the Dead universe with both an international prequel, as well as exploring the visually dynamic world of animation. It’s been a great collaboration and we are thrilled that Netflix sees this as big of an IP as we do, Zack says.

Zack Snyder will be behind the camera again with a new zombie horror thriller!

The 52-year-old director will be directing the upcoming movie Army of the Dead for Netflix. This is the first time he’s helming a film since stepping away from Justice League in the middle of post-production. He will produce alongside his wife Deborah Snyder.

Zack handed Justice League over to Joss Whedon after his daughter tragically passed away. He has stayed out of the spotlight since then.

Army of the Dead is set “amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one,” Zack told the outlet. “I thought this was a good palate cleanser to really dig in with both hands and make something fun and epic and crazy and bonkers in the best possible way.”
