Ruth Negga and Mahershala Ali hit the carpet to help celebrate the nominees of the upcoming 2017 Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday (January 7) at BOA Steakhouse in West Hollywood, Calif.

Also in attendance were Ruth‘s fellow Best Female Lead nominees Isabelle Huppert and Annette Bening.

Moonlight‘s Mahershala Ali and Trevante Rhodes represented the cast of their film, which is set to receive the Robert Altman Award for outstanding ensemble cast.

Other attendees included Supporting Female nominee Molly Shannon, Male Lead nominee Viggo Mortensen, and Best Director nominees Pablo Larrain (Jackie), Jeff Nichols (Loving), and Barry Jenkins (Moonlight).

Also at the event were Sterling K. Brown, Riz Ahmed, Issa Rae, Adam Scott, Michael Shannon, Brian Tyree Henry, and director Ava DuVernay.

The cast of Moonlight won Best Acting Ensemble at the 22nd Critics’ Choice Awards!

Members of the cast including Naomie Harris, Janelle Monae, Mahershala Ali with his wife, artist Amatus Sami-Karim, Alex Hibbert, Ashton Sanders, and director Barry Jenkins were all in attendance at the show on Sunday (December 11) at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.

Later on in the show, Mahershala won Best Supporting Actor for his work in the film as well!

Naomie Harris is getting major Oscar buzz for her portrayal of a verbally abusive, crack-addicted mother in the indie Moonlight, but she almost didn’t take the role!

The 40-year-old actress has revealed that she had reservations about playing Paula, the mother of the main character due to her longtime personal pledge to only take on roles that have positive images of women.

“I grew up with very strong, intelligent, powerful women and I don’t feel like they were reflected enough on film, certainly when I was growing up,” Naomie expressed during an Actress Roundtable discussion for THR. “I think that has changed a lot now, but I didn’t feel as though they were reflected enough on-screen so I sort of made it my mission that I was going to make my choices based on portraying positive images of women in general, and black women in particular. I didn’t feel as though a crack-addict fitted into that.”

Naomie and director Barry Jenkins sat down with TimesTalks to discuss Moonlight at the Brooklyn Public Library on Tuesday (November 29) in the Brooklyn borough of New York City.

The 52-year-old actor hosted a screening of the movie Moonlight, which he executive produced, alongside Julia on Tuesday (November 8) in Los Angeles.

Also in attendance were the film’s stars Trevante Rhodes and director Barry Jenkins.

Brad and Julia previously worked together in the Ocean’s Eleven franchise and the film The Mexican.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Brad and his ex Angelina Jolie have reached a temporary child custody agreement.
