'Blue Bloods' Follows These Other TV Casts In Choosing To Take Pay Cuts

CBSBlue Bloods was officially renewed for a brand new season, bringing the long running series to a 14th season.

However, the renewal also came with the news that the cast took a big pay cut together in order to extend the series.

Deadline reports that it was not just the cast, but producers also “agreed to salary reductions in order to keep the show going and keep hundreds of crew and other support personnel whose livelihood depends on it employed.”

Blue Bloods is hardly the first cast to make this move, as a handful before them have moved to take pay cuts for an additional season or for pay equality.

CBS Renews 'NCIS' With Mark Harmon to Return, Hands Renewals to 4 Other Shows

Huge NCIS news!

Mark Harmon is returning to the show for a 19th season, CBS confirmed Thursday (April 15), via THR.

Following earlier reports in 2021 that Mark was looking to move on from the role he first originated on JAG back in 2003, he entered negotiations to return for another season upon learning the show would likely end if he retired.

It’s unclear whether he will be returning full-time on the show, as negotiations included the option to appear in a limited number of episodes. It’s not yet known how many episodes will be included in the new season, nor whether this is the final season of the show.

CBS Brings In Advisory Group To Help Address Police Reform on 'NCIS', 'Blue Bloods' & More

The NCIS franchise and Blue Bloods are the latest television series that will tackle police brutality and reform in their upcoming seasons, CBS has announced.

The network revealed that they are working with law enforcement and public safety advisory group 21CP Solutions in order to alter the way police are depicted on its crime shows.

The 21CP advisers, according to TV Line, will be comprised of former senior law enforcement officials, civil rights scholars, lawyers, academics, and community thought leaders in police reform and public safety.

NCIS: Los Angeles showrunner R. Scott Gemmill commented on the partnership, saying, “Having an audience of millions of viewers each week comes with a great deal of responsibility. This new partnership will help us ensure that our storytelling continues to produce accurate portrayals of law enforcement, and will hopefully allow us to play a small part in the ongoing reform moving forward.”

“Providing our writing staffs with the best and most knowledgeable technical advisers offers more inclusivity and perspective,” Tiffany Smith-Anoa’i, ViacomCBS’ EVP of Diversity and Inclusion, added in a statement. “With deeper and richer narratives, our shows can convey experiences that are more authentic to the communities they depict.”

This follows the news that Law & Order: SVU will also address the issue on their upcoming season, and that LA’s Finest was pulled at the last minute to refocus.

Tom Selleck Doesn't See 'Blue Bloods' Ending Just Yet

Tom Selleck is hoping for a few more seasons, at least, for his CBS series, Blue Bloods.

The 75-year-old actor spoke with TVInsider about the season finale, airing tonight, May 1, and revealed that he doesn’t see the show ending just yet.

“I’d like them to order two seasons. We can do much betters shows if we know where we’re going,” Tom says. “This show has lasted because the characters have been allowed to grow and change. The potential is limitless in my opinion. The cast seems to love each other; I sure love them.”

He adds, “The actors are doing phenomenal work. Everybody’s very much aware that this is maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity—a show that’s found its way and is welcomed by an audience. I’m ready to go back when it’s okay to start again.”

Tom also spoke to People, sharing that the family dinner scenes are some of his favorites.

“Our dinner party scenes are like a reunion of friends,” Tom says. “Sometimes it’s hard for the directors to get us to concentrate. We do the work, and we do it well, but we’re also screwing around and kidding each other and catching up. What we have is truly a blessing.”
