'Charmed' Team Explains How Reboot Explores Current Issues

Sarah Jeffery, Melonie Diaz, and Madeleine Mantock pose for a photo while attending The Paley Center’s PaleyFest Fall TV Preview event for Charmed on Saturday (September 8) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The actresses opened up about the upcoming The CW reboot.

The show’s co-executive producer Jessica O’Toole says that the show will take time to “organically show the women handling current issues, without lecturing the audience. Even before the election, we always wanted to explore that link between strong women and witchcraft.”

Madeleine said the show is tackling these issues “because in this day and age you have to be upfront about which side you’re on,” according to Variety.

Alyssa Milano Shares Her Hopes for the 'Charmed' Reboot

Alyssa Milano is speaking out with her thoughts on the Charmed reboot.

The 45-year-old actress, who stars in the new Netflix series Insatiable, wishes that the execs of the reboot reached out to her and the other original stars from the beginning.

“I wish that they would have come to us and we would have been involved since the beginning,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “But having said that, I do hope that it reaches the newer generation and impacts that generation the way ours was able to do for its generation.”

Alyssa shot down the idea of making a cameo in an episode or even directing an episode.

“I don’t think so,” she said. “I think that that ship has sailed for me.”

'Charmed' Reboot Cast Hope Holly Marie Combs Will 'See It & Like It'

Sarah Jeffery, Melonie Diaz, and Madeleine Mantock talk to the press during Charmed‘s panel at the 2018 Summer TCA Press Tour on Monday (August 6) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The ladies were joined at the event by their co-stars Ellen Tamaki, Ser’Darius Blain, and Rupert Evans, as well as the show’s producers.

It’s no secret that original cast member Holly Marie Combs is not supportive of the reboot, but the cast hopes she’ll give it a chance.

“Of course, you can’t help but feel disappointed because I think the script is fantastic,” Madeleine said (via EW). “I really hope maybe she’ll see it and like it.”

“I think that there’s also a lot of positive stuff coming out, too, and I think that we’ve collectively made the decision to focus on that,” Melonie added.
