Iceland Will Not Play at Eurovision 2021 After Testing Positive for Coronavirus

Iceland is not performing at Eurovision 2021 anymore.

The country’s entry, Dadi og Gagnamagnid, will no longer perform live at the event after one of the group members tested positive for coronavirus amid the pandemic, organized confirmed on Wednesday (May 19), via AP.

Daði og Gagnamagnið have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from performing in this year’s live Eurovision Song Contest shows, as they only want to perform together as a group,” organizers confirmed in their statement.

The group’s song “10 Years” will still compete in the competition, and a dress rehearsal recording will be used during the broadcast of Semi-Final 2 on Thursday (May 20).

“A member of @gagnamagnid got a positive test result this morning. Unfortunately this probably means that we will not take part in the rehearsal today or live show tomorrow and a recording from our second rehearsal will be used in stead. We have all been extremely careful the whole trip so this comes as a huge surprise. We are very happy with the performance and super excited for you all to see it! Thank you for all the love ❤️,” wrote lead singer Dadi Freyr in a post on Instagram.

Ten performers from each of Tuesday’s and Thursday’s semi-finals will move on to Saturday’s grand final (May 22), where they will compete alongside the “Big 5″ of Italy, France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom, as well as the host country, the Netherlands. Check out all of the entries and ways to watch!
