Former 'GMA' Host Joan Lunden Displays Bald Head After Bravely Shaving Off Her Hair

Former Good Morning America host Joan Lunden looks brave and beautiful on the cover of this week’s People magazine, where she is displaying her bald head after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Here’s what the 64-year-old news anchor had to share:

On being diagnosed and going public: “I could decide to do nothing, but that’s certainly not my personality. I was handed an opportunity to learn everything that I can about this and try to help others. Robin [Roberts] told me waiting for your hair to fall out is excruciating. So I didn’t want to wait.”

On looking in the mirror: “I’m almost reluctant to say it because it sounds superficial. But when you lose your hair, it just affects the way that you look at yourself in the mirror. You feel less feminine, pretty or desirable, and it’s not an easy thing to go through.”

On deciding to pose with no wig: “I had to make this big decision about whether or not to do the cover with no hair. It certainly isn’t the comfortable way to go, but I decided I was going to try and help others and show women that this isn’t the end of the world. You can go on – and that was hugely empowering.”

We wish Joan all the best and are sending healing vibes her way!

Former 'GMA' Host Joan Lunden Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

Longtime host of Good Morning America Joan Lunden appeared on the morning show today (June 24) to reveal she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The 63-year-old newswoman explained to the audience that she was diagnosed with “the aggressive kind” of breast cancer and found it through an ultrasound after it did not show up on a mammogram. She will begin treatment shortly.

“I sat there stunned – how could this be? I considered myself fit and healthy, I get checked faithfully every year and I didn’t have a history of breast cancer in my family. But of course after covering many stories about breast cancer over the years, I knew that none of us are exempt,” Joan published on her blog.

We send our love to Joan and her family and friends during this time.
