Relationship drama often drives the plot of our favorite soap operas, and a happy ending isn’t always right around the corner.

Some characters find a fairytale love story, but it’s rarely without a few bumps along the road. After all, affairs, amnesia and so many other unexpected plot twists make it pretty hard for a relationship to go the distance.

There isn’t often quite as much drama in real life, but the set of a soap opera is actually a spot where romantic relationships are born between costars. While there aren’t as many wild plot twists, these love stories can be nearly as contentious as the ones we see onscreen.

And they aren’t all guaranteed to last.

We previously rounded up 15 soap opera couples who are dating in real life, including one that has been married for nearly 50 years!

However, we were able to find as many former couples who have broken up. Several actors have dated and even married multiple costars. Others made it decades before deciding to call things off.

The list also includes stars who divorced and called of engagements or simply broke things off. There’s also one iconic love triangle that started out as the plot of a popular soap opera before bleeding over into real life!

Kirsten Storms is taking a temporary leave of absence from the soap opera series General Hospital and her replacement has been revealed.

The 39-year-old actress has been starring as Maxie on the ABC soap drama since 2005 after previously starring on Days of Our Lives before that.

This isn’t the first time that Kirsten has taken a break from the show. Jen Lilley replaced her briefly in 2011 while Molly Burnett filled in frequently for various lengths of time from 2016 through 2018.

Just the other day, the 37-year-old General Hospital actress revealed to fans that she recently underwent brain surgery.

On Sunday (June 6), Kirsten took to Instagram to share an update on how she’s doing and explained why she had to undergo surgery in the first place.

The 37-year-old actress is a soap opera staple, and is best known for her role as Maxie on General Hospital, as well as Zenon from the Disney Channel movie, Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century.

Kirsten Storms has announced that she is taking a break from her soap opera General Hospital “due to some skin issues.”

The 32-year-old actress, also known for playing the title role in the Zenon trilogy, wrote a message to her fans on Twitter.

“Yes I am taking a little break from work due to some skin issues I’ve been having. My dr’s say my breakouts are due to stress, but shouldn’t take too long to get under control. (I can say that I’m on the better end of it now),” Kirsten said.

“However, it was becoming too difficult for GH to coverup. And we all know in this biz appearance is important. In the meantime I look forward to seeing Molly [Burnett] on screen as I take the next few weeks to heal. Again – thanks for the love and you will see me again in no time!” Kirsten added.

Back in April, it was announced that Kirsten and her co-star Brandon Barash, who are married in real life, are getting divorced.

Soap opera stars Brandon Barash and Kirsten Storms are splitting after three years of marriage.

The 36-year-old and 31-year-old General Hospital stars sought counselling, but ultimately decided to part ways.

“We are splitting due to the cliché irreconcilable differences, but we’re splitting amicably,” Brandon told Soap Opera Digest. “We have every intention of remaining a family through this and successfully co-parenting our kid and retaining a friendship in the efforts of raising her in a healthy environment.”

Kirsten added, “This was not a hasty decision; a lot of thought and therapy went into this. We went to therapy for a long time, trying to figure out how to communicate better with each other. It’s not anything that we dislike about each other.”

The couple got married back in 2013 and a share a daughter named Harper Rose, 2.
