Natalie Portman has released a statement honoring the late Lauren Bacall, who passed away suddenly yesterday at the age of 89.

“Lauren Bacall’s strength, wit and talent matched her extreme beauty. I had the great fortune that she so generously allowed me to direct her in my first short film,” the 33-yera-old actress told JustJared.com. “It was a true honor to watch her act up close – her sense of humor, timing and imagination were apparent in every moment. I will never forget the gift of her trust in me and the inimitable and vast talent she had. My deepest condolences to her loved ones.”

Natalie directed Lauren in the short comedy film Eve back in 2008. Our continued thoughts are with Lauren‘s loved ones during this time.

Barbra Streisand is speaking out to give praise to the late actress Lauren Bacall after she sadly passed away at the age of 89.

The legendary actress played Barbra‘s mom in the movie The Mirror Has Two Faces and the role earned her an Academy Award nomination and a win at the Golden Globes.

“What a terrible loss for us all,” Barbra said in a statement (via EW). “First Robin who was a genius and now Lauren. It was my privilege to have known her, to have acted with her, and to have directed her. And, most of all, to have had her as a wise and loving friend. She was an original. Even with all those great films we can visit again and again, she will be missed.”

The news that Lauren Bacall has passed away has Hollywood in mourning for the second time this week.

The 89-year-old legendary actress died after suffering a massive stroke on Tuesday (August 12) and her late husband Humphrey Bogart‘s estate confirmed the news.

“With deep sorrow, yet with great gratitude for her amazing life, we confirm the passing of Lauren Bacall,” his estate tweeted. The two actors starred in many films together and were married for 11 years until his death.

Lauren received an Academy Award nomination for her work in 1996′s The Mirror Has Two Faces and she was the recipient of an honorary Oscar in 2009.

The legendary actress suffered a massive stroke at her home on Tuesday (August 12), a family member told TMZ.

Lauren is best known for her roles in the movies Designing Women, How to Marry a Millionaire, and The Mirror Has Two Faces, which earned her an Oscar nomination in 1997. She later received an Honorary Award from the Academy in 2009.

Lauren was married to actor Humphrey Bogart from 1945 until his death in 1957. They had two children together. She was later married to Jason Robards from 1961 until 1969 and they had one child together.
