LeVar Burton To Host & Produce Game Show Based on 'Trivial Pursuit'

LeVar Burton is moving on to a new game show.

Deadline reports that the 64-year-old former Star Trek actor and Reading Rainbow educator will be hosting a new game show based on Trivial Pursuit!

If you’re unfamiliar, Trivial Pursuit is a game of knowledge where player’s answer general knowledge and popular culture questions. The point of the game is to earn a wedge from each section on the board. The first to collect all six wedges is the winner.

“Trivial Pursuit is one of the best-known brands in the gaming universe. I am thrilled to have partnered with Hasbro and eOne to bring this beloved game to market as a premium show for television,” LeVar shared in a statement.

The show is currently in development for eOne, and on top of hosting, LeVar will also exec produce the project via his LeVar Burton Entertainment banner.

“LeVar Burton has been an iconic member of American pop culture for decades from Roots to Reading Rainbow to Star Trek and beyond. His love for intellectual curiosity paired with his ability to connect with audiences worldwide make him the perfect partner to bring Hasbro’s beloved trivia game to households in a new and exciting way,” added Tara Long, President, Global Unscripted Television, eOne.

The news comes after LeVar hosted a week of Jeopardy! earlier this year, and then revealed it wasn’t the job for him full time.

LeVar Burton, Fan Favorite to Host 'Jeopardy,' Reacts as News Mike Richards Might Have Landed Gig Instead

Fans are so upset that LeVar Burton, the fan favorite choice to host Jeopardy! after the tragic death of Alex Trebek last year, seems to have been passed over in favor of Mike Richards.

The 64-year-old Star Trek: The Next Generation actor was announced as one of the final five guests hosts of the long-running program last week, and now he’s making it known that he’d like to stay on the show for as long as possible.

Jeopardy! Enlists LeVar Burton, Robin Roberts & More For Final Round of Guest Hosts

Jeopardy! fans have gotten their wish – LeVar Burton will be guest hosting the show!

The trivia game show announced the final five guest hosts for the program, and it includes LeVar, as well as Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, David Faber, and Joe Buck.

“We can finally tell you! Here is the final group of guest hosts to close out Season 37: Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, David Faber, Joe Buck and LeVar Burton! Link in bio to learn more,” the official show page shared.

The stars will all be hosting in an effort to raise funds for their charities of choice. When the stars helm an episode, the cumulative winnings of all the contests who compete that week will be donated to the guest hosts’ selected charitable organizations.

Recently, fans have been petitioning the show to get LeVar behind the podium, even saying he should be hired as the host for the show following Alex Trebek‘s passing.

The petition on Change.org has reached over 200,000 signatures, and LeVar thanked them for all their support before and after the news of his guest hosting gig.

“THANK YOU… to all y’all for your passionate support! I am overjoyed, excited, and eager to be guest-hosting Jeopardy!, and will do my utmost best to live up to your faith you in me. YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE! Go ahead and take my word for it, this time,” he wrote.

Bill Whittaker, Mayim Bialik, Savannah Guthrie and Dr. Sanjay Gupta are still scheduled to guest host the program as well, after current guest host, Anderson Cooper.

'Reading Rainbow' Hits $1 Million Kickstarter Goal Within 11 Hours of Launch!

Eleven hours after launching the campaign to bring back the hit series, it reached its one million dollar goal, and numbers are still rising!

At the moment, the Kickstarter has raised $1,768,482. Congratulations – we cannot wait to see this educational series brought back to life.

“Our goal is to cultivate a love of reading in all children, not just those that have tablets. To reach kids everywhere, we need to be everywhere: we need to be on the web.” the campaign urges in its mission statement.
