Prime Video has just premiered the new show, which is based on the appendices of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s The Lord of the Rings book series.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power found itself in trouble with fans of the franchise even before the series has aired.
Earlier this year, as promotional images for the series were released, fans quickly took notice of Princess Disa, played by Sophia Nomvete, and her lack of facial hair.
Many reference Gimli’s monologue in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers where he stated that male and female Dwarves are indistinguishable from one another due to their bearded appearances. While you can see some facial hair on Disa, it’s very minimal compared to Owain Arthur‘s full beard as Prince Durin IV.
Now, one of the producers on the show is clearing things up on the beard controversy.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is on track to become the most expensive television show ever made.
Just last year, it was reported that the first season of the show had cost around $465 million to make – but that’s just half the cost of what the entire series will end up at.
“This is a full season of a huge world-building show. The number is a sexy headline or a crazy headline that’s fun to click on, but that is really building the infrastructure of what will sustain the whole series,” Jennifer Salke explained of the astonishing number that was circulated.
She added that with that number “there’s a lot of wooing and we have to make decisions on where we want to stretch and where we want to draw the line.”

Morfydd Clark is opening up about how her Galadriel will be different from Cate Blanchett‘s take for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
The 33-year-old actress steps into the role popularized by Cate in The Lord of the Rings film franchise, and in a recent interview, opened up about how she’ll be honoring the actress, and J.R.R. Tolkien‘s world at the same time.
“[Blanchett] has been such a huge part of my childhood as Galadriel. She literally feels like a mythical being to me,” she told E! News. “I felt really obviously so lucky to be playing a character to be portrayed by her but also it’s nice to know where your character is going.”
Morfydd added that “to think [of] who Galadriel is now, she has no idea who she is going to become, that she’ll become the Queen of Lothlorien but also she’ll become Cate Blanchett. That’s cool.”
