Matt Lauer Won't Be Replaced on 'Christmas in Rockefeller Center' Tonight

Matt Lauer was supposed to host the NBC special Christmas in Rockefeller Center for the annual lighting of the New York City Christmas tree.

The Today show anchor was fired for sexual misconduct, and will obviously not be appearing on the special tonight. His former co-anchors, Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker will all be on hand, and NBC will not be replacing Lauer at the last minute, People reports.

The holiday special will go on as usual tonight at 8pm ET on NBC.

Ann Curry Asked About Former Co-Anchor Matt Lauer's Sexual Misconduct Firing

Ann Curry was asked about the allegation of sexual misconduct made against Matt Lauer, which ultimately lead to his termination at NBC.

Ann and Matt were Today show co-hosts until she was taken off of the show back in 2012.

“I’m still really processing it,” Anne told People, before adding, “The women’s movement got us into the workplace, but it didn’t make us safe once we got there. And the battle lines are now clear. We need to move this revolution forward and make our workplaces safe. Corporate America is quite clearly failing to do so, and unless it does something to change that, we need to keep doing more ourselves.”

Matt Lauer's Sexual Misconduct Accusation Stemmed From 2014's Sochi Winter Olympics (Report)

More details are emerging after Matt Lauer was fired by NBC for sexual misconduct.

A source is telling People that a woman came forward about Lauer and sexual misconduct at the Sochi Winter Olympics back in 2014.

The survivor who came forward hired lawyer Ari Wilkenfeld, who released a statement to Page Six about the course of events that occurred beginning on Monday (November 27).

“My client and I met with representatives from NBC’s Human Resources and Legal Department at 6 p.m. on Monday. Over the course of several hours, my client detailed egregious acts of sexual harassment and misconduct by Mr. Lauer,” Ari said in a statement. “In fewer than than 35 hours, NBC investigated and removed Mr. Lauer. Our impression at this point is that NBC acted quickly and responsibly, as all companies should when confronted with credible allegations about sexual misconduct in the workplace. While I am impressed by NBC’s response to date, I am awed by the courage my client showed to be the first to raise a complaint and to do so without making any demands other than asking the company do the right thing. This is how the system should work.”

Sources are saying the evidence against Lauer was “compelling.”

Megyn Kelly, Al Roker & More NBC Hosts React to Matt Lauer's Firing

NBC host Megyn Kelly has spoken out about the firing of Matt Lauer, who was dismissed from his role as longtime Today show anchor after a sexual misconduct allegation was brought to light.

“This one does hit close to home,” Megyn told her viewers. “But when this happens what we don’t see is the pain on the faces of those who found the courage to come forward, and it’s a terrifying thing to do.

“We are in the middle of a sea change in this country. An empowerment revolution. s painful as this moment is for so many here at NBC today, at CBS [with Charlie Rose] earlier this month, at Fox News over the last year, in Hollywood this fall, it is a sign of progress. Of women finding their voices, their courage and of the erosion of a shameful power imbalance that has been in place for far too long,” Megyn continued.

In my experience, a news organization is bigger than any one person. They all face challenges, they all stumble. But the good ones stay standing and forge forward, fulfilling their core mission: Journalism,” she added.

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb were the ones who broke the news to the Today show audience with an emotional message.

Al Roker, meanwhile, said he was “trying to process” the news about his friend of over 30 years.

Lauer had been a member of the Today show since 1997.
