Emily Blunt‘s highly-anticipated new movie The Girl on the Train came in first place at the box office with a $24.7 million debut!
According to THR, the film adaptation of Paula Hawkins‘s best-selling novel took in $16.5 million overseas, for a global total of $41.2 million so far.
Coming in at No. 2 was Tim Burton‘s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, starring Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, and Ella Purnell, which earned an additional $15 million for a domestic total of $51.1 million.
Taking the third spot was Mark Wahlberg‘s new movie Deepwater Horizon, which also stars Kate Hudson, Dylan O’Brien, and Gina Rodriguez, and brought in an additional $11.8 million for a North American total of $38.5 million.
Rounding out the top five were The Magnificent Seven and Storks, earning $9.2 million and $8.5 million, respectively.
Nate Parker‘s Birth of a Nation debuted to $7.1 million, while Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life opened to $6.9 million.
