Ryan Murphy‘s upcoming series, The Prom, is shutting down amid coronavirus fears.

The upcoming feature film adaptation of the musical shut down production on the Paramount lot, Deadline reported on Thursday (March 12).

The film stars Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep, and was shut down out of “an abundance of caution,” a source close to the movie told Deadline.

“No one has the coronavirus, this is just being prudent with everything that is going on around the world,” another insider explained.

The Prom will reportedly resume work in mid-April, depending on how the coronavirus outbreak plays out.

Meryl has been sporting a short red wig for her role as Broadway star Dee Dee Allen, who decides to fix her tarnished public image by traveling to a small conservative town in Indiana to support a high school girl who wants to bring her girlfriend to the prom.

Meryl plays Dee Dee Allen and James plays Barry Glickman in the upcoming Netflix adaptation, and were seen wrapping up after a long day of filming.

The Prom follows a troupe of hilariously self-obsessed theater stars who swarm into a small conservative Indiana town in support of a high school girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom. It’s expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2020.

The Oscar-winning actress was joined on set by Andrew Rannells, as well as James Corden and Meryl Streep, who were spotted earlier in the day too.

These are the first photos of Nicole and Andrew on set. Keegan-Michael Key was also pictured that night, but he wasn’t in costume.

It seems that James, Meryl, Nicole, and Andrew are filming one of the first scenes in the show, which is the opening night party for Eleanor: The Eleanor Roosevelt Musical. James and Meryl‘s characters star in the musical within the musical, which is panned by critics and ruins their careers. It’s at this party where they run into old friends, played by Nicole and Andrew, and they hatch a plan to travel to a small conservative town in Indiana to support a high school girl who wants to bring her girlfriend to the prom.

The movie, based on the Broadway musical of the same name, will be released on Netflix in 2020.
