Alexander Skarsgard: New 'Melancholia' Poster!

Alexander Skarsgard gets close with Kirsten Dunst in this new poster for their film Melancholia.

The Lars Von Trier-directed flick is now available on VOD and will open in theaters November 11.

WATCH: Melancholia Theatrical Trailer

Melancholia, like everything von Trier does, is an event. More than that, it’s his finest film for nearly a decade. A crazily bold, visually enthralling, and emotionally seismic drama about the meaning of existence. It’s also, by some way, a funnier and more visceral companion piece to Terrence Malick‘s The Tree of Life,” writes the Telegraph‘s reviewer.

I’d watch it. I’m curious to see anything Kirsten Dunst is in.

    it was boring

  • Debbie

I loved it. Classy movie. Beautiful settings and colour palate. Kirsten Dunst is fantastic in this, and so very beautiful too. I particularly liked the scene at the bar, the limo, and the end of the world. Skars is definitely playing as many different characters as possible, and doing that well too.
I tried to sneak in to see the ending again when I went to the cinema to see Drive in the week; blasted projector broke on the film’s last screening so I couldn’t. It’d haunted me that much.

This movie Not great yastrday my girlfriend give me alot movie so funny glad glad.

  • JM

I rented it on demand. The first 10-15 minutes are a little boring and reminded me of 2001: A Space Odyssey. However, once it got going, it sucked me right in. I felt bad for Alex’s character & Kirsten did a good job. In fact, the whole cast was great and when it was all over, I was shaken. Great movie but really depressing.

Loved the movie! Kind of slow at the beginning but really good over all!

  • Lola

I’ve watched it twice now and it’s an amazing movie. Not for everyone though.

  • Debbie

I’m glad it wasn’t just me that came out of the film shaken; there was a crescent moon hanging low in the sky as I drove home after seeing it which made me feel quite uncomfortable. I didn’t find Melancholia depressing though; I thought the end of Justine’s mental journey was quite uplifting. It was like everything fell into place, made sense for her and she was finally at peace.

I see our glue sniffing troll is back. It’s been very busy the last few days, perhaps it got a weekend pass from the asylum.

I want to see Melancholia on the big screen, but alas, it won’t be showing at a theater near me. So I’ll have to wait for the dvd.

    I want to see it

  • Jessie

What the hell is with some of these people who constantly spam these threads? It’s not even just the Alex threads, it’s every single thread on this website. Do you not have anything better to do than post weird comments that don’t make any sense?

  • Jessie

Where do you find it on demand? I’m looking on my cable provider and it isn’t listed. It is only for certain people?

  • ladybug

@Jessie: It would probably depend on your cable provider and what cable package you have.

  • Jessie

I have full digital cable and the on demand package but it doesn’t seem to be listed at all. Maybe they aren’t carrying it until later.

  • Hot Potato

its a beautiful, sad movie, and the cinematography is exceptional. Haunting.

  • AbFab

@Jessie: You can find it on OnDemand, iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, Playstation and Zune.

  • Jessie

It’s not on my OnDemand list and I just searched iTunes and can’t find it. I’ll try Amazon maybe, and if not I guess I’ll have to wait to see if it will come to my theater.

  • mforman

I also have tried iTunes, On Demand, etc and I am having no luck either.

This is the first time I have had trouble watching an AS movie, I even was able to get PUSS when it first opened. I really hope I get the chance to see this, because I have never been disappointed in any of AS’s movies, even the early ones.

I trust reviewers but I trust my fellow fans first and foremost and the few of you that have seen the movie, have only had good things to say, so I truly cannot wait.

  • chelle

@mforman: it’s listed under indie films and magnolia production on xfinity/Comcast on demand. That’s where I found it or look under just in section. I will probably watch it tomorrow when I’m home.

  • kst

Wow, this poster is really cool, can’t wait to see this movie.

  • csa

    I love Trier` s movies.He is a great filmmaker.Melancholia is far better than Antichrist! I loved Kirsten in it…

  • seeshay

I’m going to wait and try to see this in theater I think. If it doesn’t come near enough, then I’ll try on demand so thank you to all the posters who explained how to find it on that menu. I gather Alex is back in Sweden finally getting a nice break from working. I’m already looking forward to seeing set photos from the East, hope we get a few.

  • Jessie

I went throught all the movies listed A-Z on my menu and it isn’t there. I don’t have Comcast though. Crap! I really wanted to watch it. I guess I’ll have to wait until November.

  • Camille

It isn’t listed in my menu either, though I live in Canada so maybe it was only released in the US. Usually though, we get things at the same time as the States does. I doubt my small theater will carry it either. They didn’t have SD when it was out, so they probably won’t have Melancholia.

On another note, I see KB’s post has been driven up by people wasting time and energy posting on her. Ugh, I just can’t give her any further time of mine. She doesn’t deserve it.

  • mforman

@chelle—thank you so much for the help. I will try it when I get home from work.

Thanks again for taking the time to try to help me.

  • AbFab

@Jessie: Sorry, my mistake. It’s Magnolia on Demand.

  • AbFab

@seeshay: Melancholia is also hitting the fall festival circuit so you should also check any film festivals near your city.

  • katy

  • Camille

Thanks AbFab. Unfortunately for me living in Canada, most of those don’t appear to be an option. I tried to buy it on Amazon and it said only US customers could. That sucks. I still can’t find it on iTunes either. Oh well.

  • Kelly

I really hope Kirsten gets a nomination for her performance. She was so good in this. She and Alex had good chemistry. You really got that they loved each other, but that she was just incapable of maintaining happiness and incredibly damaged.

  • Camille

Wow what a mess on KB’s thread. LOL

  • Toots

I was able to see the movie on demand and I thought it was visually stunning. I also thought that Alex did a great job in his role. I’ll probably watch it again once it comes out on DVD so I can try and pick up some more on the symbolism I missed by watching it just once. It cost ten dollars to rent it for 48 hours if anyone has xfinity and wants to watch it before it hits theaters. It will only be available on demand until then anyway.

  • ladybug

@Camille: And I admit to contributing to it (puts self in corner).

Back on topic: Why don’t I have dreams like this?
