Watch Alicia Keys' Whitney Houston Tribute Performance - Video

Alicia Keys gave a touching performance of “Send Me An Angel” during Whitney Houston‘s funeral at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday (February 18).

Watch the performance below! Stevie Wonder performed “Ribbon in the Sky” while R. Kelly sang Whitney‘s song “I Look To You.”

Aretha Franklin canceled her performance due to illness.

“Regretfully, I am so sorry that I was unable to be with you at Whitney‘s service today,” the Queen of Soul said in a statement. “I had every intention of being there. But unfortunately I had terrible leg spasms and locked leg muscles until 4:00 a.m. this morning following my concert last night, which I’ve been having for the last few days.”

“I feel it necessary and very important to stay off my leg today as much as possible until concert time this evening. My heart goes out to my dear friend Cissy, Dionne, Bobbi Kristina and the rest of the family. May God keep them all. – Aretha & the Franklin Family.”

    She was shouting!

    They should of got Leona Lewis to do it, her version of “I will always love you” is better than Alicia and JHud!

    Real Heroes Says:

    She didn’t deserve Flag Honors…She made all the wrong choices in life….she decided to kill herself ..making a fool of herself fighting a young girl over a dicccck like RayJ…worse than Demi.
    Flag Honors are for REAL Heroes.

    From the money and fame hungry “Preachers”, to the Celebs that got high with her to now put on a self serving show is just disgusting.

    @Real Heroes:
    she did not kill herself.. if you watched the home going service you would know that.. especially if you heard Clive Davis his speech..

    @bugged: You really think that Whitney Houston and her relatives couldn’t pay for her own funeral ? Who’s the buffoon ?

    @Real Heroes
    I think she deserved it for her rendition of the National Anthem. Not only was it arguably the best rendition ever, it was (and still may be) the best selling; it also inspired a lot of people. She donated all of her share of the proceeds to Gulf War and 911 families. I wouldn’t call her a hero, but in her time she was inspirational.

    Its unforunate that we have so many immature people in this world. We all know what Whitney did, and we aren’t in the position to judge her. Some people aren’t as strong as other, and Whitney carried the world and more on her back. She was a inspiration to many people. Besides all the bs people talk she was human, she bleed the same blood we all bleed. I pray for her family and especially Bobbi Krista with the lost of her mother, and now she has to deal with the nasty comments of heartless people. Allow the woman to rest in peace. We all have our demons but when its all said and done the only person we have to answer to is Jesus his self. So all you people with negative comments come down off your high horse, because your no better then the next. RIP WHITNEY HOUSTON. Your voice still sings volumes in your fans hearts.

    TAXPAYERS foot the bill for extra and overtime police security and the Flags don’t lower themselves.

  14. 14
    Isabelle Says:

    @guest: What is it that you don’t understand, you little brain? Houston’s family has way more than enough money to pay for the funerals on their own.
    If that’s all you can come up with, go back to bed.

    I don’t know whether she killed herself or not, but one thing I do know is Alicia Keys AND R. Kelly sounded horrible!! OMG!!

    Everyone honored Ms. Whitney Houston in song and memories of her.

    I thought Alicia Keys did a great job with raw emotion. She was very effected by her death and she honeored her with a beautiful song.

    Whitney is an angel in heaven.

    Half of the people that are speaking ill about Whitney did the same thing only thing theirs did not tell on them.

    Sissy Says:

    Aretha Franklin is the queen of soul but she need to get her priority in order. She rather keep off her legs to sing in her concert tonight then saying good bye to her god daughter is just plain wrong. What kind of person is that? I’m shaking my heads in disbelief but today is is about Whitney

    Major Says:

    Beautiful service however, why alicia keys shouting? was she trying to impress everyone? she was horrible. Hey, i know this was not a performance but a tribute and respect to whitney but geez…. we really saw who can sing: Bebe winans, and the women that sang her version of sam cooks song and who could not sing: alicia keys

    Mikki Says:

    Whitney Housten was THE VOICE, she was a gorgeous person, she loved her Mother and her child….So her death is not in VAIN, let Society wake up to what the effects of NARCISSISTIC ABUSE is and its ongoing AFTERMATH psychological traumatising effect on life..she was emotionally and psychologically tortured by her EX HUSBAND who was a cheating predator whilst married to Whitney…he introduced her to drugs, where after all of his mental torture that led to them separating (and she did unquestionably love and adore him), she continued to SELF MEDICATE and was on anti-depressants BECAUSE of the results of her ex husbands mental torture and self indulgence to put himself FIRST at the expense of Whitney and their daughter Bobbi Kristina….PLEASE SOCIETY, MEDIA, THE LAW, FAMILY….recognise the effects and the COMPLEX – POST TRAUMATIC STRESS (means ongoing mental torture of the effects of an unexpected trauma…in this case Whitney PSYCHOLOGICAL/EMOTIONAL abuse by her ex husband)…its the result of her death….It was all ABOUT HIM (BOBBY BROWN) today a
    t Whitneys funeral…he walked out and grabbed the HEADLINES because he couldn’t get his way…hope this is the last mileage he ever gets from Whitney, he’s a lousy cheating abusive husband and an absent lousy Father and Whitney died indirectly from his NARCISSISTIC ABUSE, not just because of drugs and prescriptions …She is an angel now….may she sing as beautifully in heaven as she did here on earth…

    Kae Says:

    Look Alicia and R. Kelly both can sing but I think that anyone crying before or during a performance will have a hard time. Some of you people are ridiculous. RIP Whitney

    Anita Says:

    @Major:
    First of all, Alicia was NOT horrible. It was a beautiful tribute and anyone who wouldn’t have been crying after Kevin Costner’s speach would have to be made of stone. Trying to gain your composure after something like that at that time and then to sing would be quite difficult. especially when this was your friend. She did a terrific job and I am very proud of her. Like I’ve stated before she could shout, sing, scream or whatever because she was giving the tribute and it doesn’t matter at all what you think or if you or anyone else didn’t like it. I think to watch just to see who could sing was not a really good reason to watch. This wasn’t a show, it was a tribute to Whitney and it didn’t have to be the best. There was much sorrow involved, so do you really think anyone cared if you liked it or not? Alicia is an angel and it was beautiful.
